Join the Mule Deer Foundation and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife on November 6–7, 2026, for a hands-on habitat restoration event at Chelan Butte Wildlife Management Area!
Help restore bitterbrush and other vital shrub habitat lost in the 2022 and 2024 wildfires, providing important nutrition for mule deer on their summer range and along migratory pathways. Volunteers will help distribute plants, plant bitterbrush, and install temporary exclusion fencing.
Come for a few hours or stay for the day—there is no need to commit to an entire day or both days. Every helping hand makes a difference! When registering, please indicate when you plan to attend and whether you would like lunch so we can plan accordingly.
Meeting time: 8:00 a.m. each day.
Meeting location: From Stayman Flats Road, travel north 1.7 miles on Chelan Butte Road to the parking pad. GPS: 47.77605, -120.07262.
The planting area is approximately 4 miles beyond the meeting location. The winding road may require a high-clearance vehicle, and carpooling may be needed depending on road conditions.
Please bring water, work gloves, and sturdy footwear suitable for working on sloping hills. Dress for the weather and a day outdoors.
For more information and registration, contact Bridget Wood at (360) 580-4318 or Ryan Krapp at (458) 202-9112, or visit muledeer.org/volunteer.
